He nasab

His birth and childhood
He was born in Al-Suweiry area (near the town of Tarim), Hadramaut, in the year 1289 H. His father Al-Habib Abdullah, comes from the town of Tarim, and later emigrated to the city of As-Suweiry with some friends he was on the orders of Al-Imam Al-Habib bin Husin Bin Thahir Thahir Ba'alawy to oversee the ceasefire between the tribes that occurred in the city these.
Al-Habib Zain He grew up in a family full of virtue, science and morals, family imitate his ancestor Prophet. He emigrated Travel
In the year 1301 AH, he emigrated to travel to Indonesia, accompanied by his brothers Alwi, Ahmad and Ali. At that time he was 12 years old. In Indonesia, he met with his uncle Al-Allama Al-Habib Muhammad bin Alwi Al-Aidrus who are already settled there.
His apprenticeship
Before he emigrated to Indonesia, he took a lot of knowledge from his family, and also from the clergy in his native Hadramaut, which was quite famous at that time with a country full of great scholars. From the area, he took a lot of various religious sciences.
Once in Indonesia, he is studying for his uncle Al-Habib Muhammad. Once considered quite, he was al-Habib Zain sent by his uncle for his education to one of his famous mufti in Indonesia at that time, namely Al-Habib al-Faqih al-Allama Uthman ibn Abdullah Bin Yahya. His teacher Uthman Al-Habib Bin Yahya is one of the religious figures who accomplished enough in the field of jurisprudence and Islamic sciences at that time. Many of the students' Uthman al-Habib who became great scholars, like Al-Habib Ali bin Abdur Rahman Alhabsyi, Kwitang.

Many of taken his knowledge from his teacher, including the sciences of Arabic, Fiqh, Fara'idh (the science of inheritance), Usul, Falak, and so forth. He took his master of science and he has a lot of charity and get a diploma from the teacher.
The period of his missionary
In the year 1322 H, stand a religious school in the city as called Jamiat Khair. Some administrators of the schools were then come to him to ask him to teach there. Finally he was there with solemnity mengajarlah, without tired and bored. At that time he was a teaching staff of the school's first period Jamiat Khair, a school which produced many religious figures and movements.
A few years later, he founded a small school in the way of Gajah Mada, Jakarta. The existence of the school was greeted with joy by the people, who really need the will of the religious sciences. But unfortunately, not how long hose, with the arrival of the Japanese, the school is closed by the Japanese invaders.
Several years later, in the year 1326 AH, he founded the majlis taklim at Masjid Al-Mubarak, Krukut, Jakarta. Taklim Majlis was held day and night, and many attended by male and female. After the death of his uncle Al-Habib Muhammad, who became caliph beliaulah it. Included also he has been a priest in the mosque, replacing his uncle's position. At the mosque, he taught religious sciences, including knowledge of Tafsir, Fiqh, creed, straight, and other sciences, in a way that is easy and simple. So that 'he is running its activities in preaching, without tired and bored, as long as 70 years.
His seclusion
Thariqoh As held by the Datuk him, he bermadzhabkan to Al-Imam Ash-Shafi'i and Sy-bersandarkan on aqidah Asy'ariyyah, one inside the Ahlus Sunnah wal aqidah Jamaah. That's what he brought as a grip of life, continued from what has been outlined by his ancestor-progenitor of the Banu Alawy Salaf.
His noble traits
While on his properties, he is a has khasyah (fear) of Allah, ascetic of the world, qana'ah in accepting something, a lot of reading the Qur'an and dhikr. As in his childhood, he was always diligent prayers at Masjid Al-Mubarak and there he has always acted as a priest. One habit that often he did was he did not get out of the mosque after Fajr prayer, except after the arrival time isyraq (rising sun). Likewise with the sunnah prayers which he always did. This goes on even though he had entered his old age.
He died
At the end of his life, he is a majlis majlis science filled with peace and quiet, full of character and majlis adab, majlis full anwar and asrar, science parks and wisdom, filled with dhikr and prayer. Until finally he was called by God Almighty for His face, in her 110th year. He died on Saturday, the 24th of Rabi Tsani 1399 H (March 24, 1979 AD), about three o'clock in the afternoon. His body was buried at the cemetery Condet (in front of Al-Hawi), Jakarta.
